Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro is advising customers on the Avalon Peninsula that a Power Watch is still  in effect.

This means they are monitoring the system closely. No customer action is required at this time.

The Holyrood Thermal Generating Plant has three generating units. Yesterday, Unit 2 at the Holyrood Thermal Generating Plant tripped offline causing a short customer outage. During the trip, there was damage to an electrical control panel near one of the boilers. Repairs are underway; however Unit 2 is not anticipated to be back in service until early next week.

Unit 3 is also currently offline for completion of its annual maintenance. Hydro’s maintenance season typically begins in late April. However, Hydro will be bringing this unit back online until Unit 2 is repaired, to help ensure system reliability.
With both Holyrood Units 2 and 3 currently unavailable, power reserves are lower on the Avalon Peninsula than during normal operations. Hydro will be watching the system very closely and will communicate with customers if anything changes.
