Power Watch for the Avalon

Posted by on Wednesday, January 6, 2016

NL Hydro has continued a "Power Watch" for the Avalon Peninsula after one of three units at the Holyrood generating station was taken offline for repairs.
Customers may be asked to conserve power.

In a statement NL Hydro said, "Cold weather is expected again on Friday and therefore Hydro will continue to watch the system closely until that time and will advise customers of any changes."

NL Hydro is expected to provide an update in the coming days.

Temperatures are expected to moderate over the next few days.

This brings back fears of two years ago when rolling blackouts and island-wide blackouts occurred in bone-chilling temperatures. Many on social media have asked the question how is this still an issue?
