Power Consumption Up in Alberta Due to Cold Weather

Posted by on Sunday, December 11, 2016

The cold weather in Alberta has caused a record amount of energy consumption.

For the last week or so wind chill values have plunged into the minus 40's.

The Alberta Electric System Operator said the province used a record hourly average amount of electricity between 5 and 6 p.m. on Dec. 8, reaching 11,442 megawatts.

Environment Canada has issued extreme cold warnings for much of northern and central Alberta.
There is no end in sight to the extreme cold.
