The cold weather in Alberta has caused a record amount of energy consumption.
For the last week or so wind chill values have plunged into the minus 40's.
The Alberta Electric System Operator said the province used a record hourly average amount of electricity between 5 and 6 p.m. on Dec. 8, reaching 11,442 megawatts.
Environment Canada has issued extreme cold warnings for much of northern and central Alberta.
