Hurricane Ophelia is expected to transition to a post tropical storm on Monday as Ireland and the United Kingdom prepare for a direct hit.

Wind speeds of 80 km/h with gusts in excess of 130 km/h are expected, these wind speeds are exceptionally rare in these areas.

These strong winds can cause structural damage and dangerous water conditions due to high seas and potential flooding.

Heavy rain is also possible in association with this system with northwestern UK most likely to get hit hardest.
