NWS in Omaha Forced to Evacuate

The National Weather Service office in Omaha, Nebraska was forced to evacuate their office on Friday due to flooding from the Platte River.

On Tuesday the management team was assessing the building and equipment.

They will be making a decision about moving back in and getting the radar and NOAA weather radio back online. 

On Friday. those in the office waited as long as possible. At 10:06 a.m. the NWS Office announced, “The Omaha/Valley, NE NWS is evacuating due to flooding.”

They also said, “This will be the last message until the flooding threat is over.”

There are 122 local weather forecast offices across the United States, and each has a neighbor that will step in when needed.
