NL to See Rain, Snow, and Strong Wind Saturday

A strong area of low pressure will deliver heavy rain, strong wind, and even snow to parts of Newfoundland and Labrador on Saturday.

Rain will begin this evening across western Labrador and spread south and east to encompass southern Labrador and Newfoundland by Saturday.

The heaviest rain will fall across southern Labrador.

Western Newfoundland and most of southern Labrador will see strong wind. Gusts could reach 110 km/h in some areas.

Most accumulating snowfall will be confined to northern Labrador where 20 to 30 cm is possible in some areas.

There is also disruptions to Marine Atlantic. High winds and sea conditions have caused the Port aux Basques to North Sydney crossing scheduled for 11:45 this evening to be  rescheduled to Saturday at 11:45 am. The North Sydney to Port aux Basques crossing scheduled for tonight is also rescheduled for tomorrow. Marine Atlantic also advises customers that due to impending weather conditions in the Cabot Strait they anticipate a potential impact to the following departures North Sydney  to Port aux Basques Saturday, September 22, 2018 at 11:45 am and Port aux Basques  to North Sydney Saturday, September 22, 2018 at 11:45 am.
