On Wednesday parts of Newfoundland got pounded with snow squalls.

Many people on the west coast got a day off work after shopping malls, banks, government offices, and more closed due to the violent weather.

For most of the day there were whiteouts and motorists we advised to stay off many roads.

Conditions improved as the day progressed, however, the snow continued throughout Wednesday night.

Today we are still not out of the woods...

Strong wind will continue for the morning along the west coast and be an all-day event on the Avalon.

This will cause reduced visibility due to blowing snow.

There will continue to be a risk of snow squalls over the Avalon, south coast, and west coast.

Snow squalls may persist into this evening. The snow squall threat largely diminishes for Friday.

Central just has a chance of flurries today.

In Labrador periods of snow and blowing snow over exposed locations are expected to persist until late Thursday or Friday morning.

For the northern Labrador coast, strong wind will persist throughout the day.
