Blowing snow, strong wind, and heavy snow is expected today across parts of Newfoundland thanks to a system off the north coast.

Strong winds are expected for north facing shores with gusts up to 110 km/h tonight and Thursday morning.

Significant snow is likely on the Great Northern Peninsula. Up to 40 cm is possible. Winds will gust from 100 to 130 km/h. The strongest winds are expected in the Canada Bay area.

Along the west coast snow and blowing snow will not be as bad. Winds will gust to 80 km/h with about 5 to 10 cm expected by Thursday morning.

Along coastal Labrador snow will pick up this afternoon with 35 to 45 cm expected from Cartwright to Black Tickle. Elsewhere along the coast snowfall amounts will range from 15 to 30 cm with the highest accumulations expected from Postville to Makkovik. The snow will be accompanied by strong wind gusts up to 110 km/h.
