NL Oil Rig has close encounter with Iceberg

Posted by on Thursday, March 30, 2017

It was a close call on the SeaRose FPSO oil rig on Wednesday.

Husky Energy says a iceberg measuring 40 metres wide, 60 metres long and eight metres above the waterline was drifting toward the rig.

In preparation for a potential disconnect Husky de-pressurized production wells and flushed flowlines with treated seawater.
The SeaRose FPSO oil rig is located about 350 kilometres east of Newfoundland.

Luckily the iceberg passed without incident.
