Newfoundland in for more Snow this Weekend

Posted by on Friday, March 11, 2016

A low system will approach Newfoundland from the west on Sunday and has the potential to deliver a significant amount of snow.

In St John's anywhere from 5 to 10 centimeters is expected. For central Newfoundland anywhere from as little as 5 centimeters to as much as 20 centimeters is possible. In Corner Brook snowfall amounts will generally be about 5 to 10 centimeters, except 15 centimeters in the heaviest snow. On the Great Northern Peninsula only about 2 to 4 centimeters and Port aux Basques will pick up about 5 centimeters of snow.

Winds will not be overly gusty they will gust to about 50 km/h on the east coast and 60 km/h on the west coast. Even though the winds will not be very strong it will still cause snow to blow around causing reduced visibility.

Models are still not agreeing totally and exactly what this system will do, stay tuned for the latest weather updates throughout the weekend.
