Newfoundland and Labrador Pounded by Violent Winter Storm

Posted by Kyle Brookings on Thursday, November 15, 2018

Thursday marks day two of a violent storm that is ripping across Newfoundland and Labrador.

Once again today many schools are closed, several flights are cancelled, ferries are not running, power outages continue, and roads are a mess.

Winds remain high across Newfoundland with gusts to 130 km/h expected in the strongest gusts.

White Bay to Cape Race will see higher than normal water levels due to storm surge combined with large waves and pounding surf.

In Central Newfoundland, strong winds combined with fresh snow will cause blowing snow, reducing visibilities to near zero at times today.

Snow will continue along the West Coast with about another 10 cm expected. This will combine with strong wind and blowing snow.

In southeastern Labrador, snow and blowing snow plus strong winds will continue today. An additional 2 to 5 cm along with winds gusting to 100 km/h are expected.
