North Carolina has just gotten bigger.

A new Island has formed off the Outer Banks.

At the end of Cape Point, what started as a small sandbank back in April has grown to an island that is about 1.5 kilometres long and about 140 metres wide.

There is a large amount of seashells on the Island and as a result it has been dubbed "Shelly Island".

The island may disappear without warning.
