Officials are considering a reservation system for the park. The park had 4,295,128 visitors in 2016.

Many options are on the table to manage the overwhelming number of visitors.

The 593.3 km² park is routinely filled with people looking to explore the main canyon.

Zion National Park is a southwest Utah nature preserve distinguished by Zion Canyon’s steep red cliffs. Zion Canyon Scenic Drive cuts through its main section, leading to forest trails along the Virgin River. The river flows to the Emerald Pools, which have waterfalls and a hanging garden.

Also along the river, partly through deep chasms, is Zion Narrows wading hike.
