MUST SEE PICTURE: Giant Snowballs on Beach

Posted by on Tuesday, November 8, 2016

A small community high about the Arctic Circle in Russia, Nyda, is experiencing a very strange phenomenon.

Baseball-sized ice snowballs have been observed along the coast.

The snowballs are formed when ice sheets break and the chunks are lashed by wind and high waves. Water starts to freeze onto these broken-off chunks, and the wind shapes them into roughly spherical balls.

While the phenomenon has never been recorded in that area, it has been observed a little closer to home such as Lake Michigan.
