Massive Hole Opens in Antarctica

Posted by on Friday, October 13, 2017

For the second year in a row, scientists have discovered a massive hole in the ice of Antarctica.

The phenomena is know as polynya, a stretch of open water surrounded by ice.

The hole stretches to over 75,000 square kilometers.

The scientists aren't sure what has caused its return.

It is located in the Weddell Sea.

This will impact the ocean, and as warmer water comes to the surface, it'll get harder to close the hole.
