Massive Asteroid Whizzes by Earth

Posted by Kyle Brookings on Friday, April 20, 2018

Back on April 15 Earth had a close encounter with an asteroid.

Asteroid 2018 GE3 was just 192,317 km away. It is about 300 feet long.

The bad news is that the asteroid was not detected until a couple hours before it whizzed by.

If it had collided with Earth it would have definitely caused damage.

Asteroid 2018 GE3 is larger than the asteroid that exploded over Chelyabinsk, Russia, in 2013. It caused nearly 1,200 injuries after a shock wave from the explosion shattered acres of windows in the city.
