A New York Times analysis says that the death toll from Hurricane Maria was much higher in Puerto Rico than what officials say.

The publication says that there may have been over 1,000 deaths and not the current official death toll of 64.

That allegation is based on mortality data from other years and records from the weeks following the storm.

The number of dead bodies found was far higher then 64. The number of dead had to be from a major event, there was nothing else that could have caused the deaths.
