Village on Mountain Covered With Snows

An area of low pressure will be positioned just south of Newfoundland on Friday night.

The low is expected to move north with the center of the low passing near the Avalon Peninsula on Saturday.

Right now it appears as though most of Southern, Central and Western Newfoundland will see snow.

On the Avalon snow will likely change to ice pellets then to freezing rain and eventually to rain. The big story on the Avalon will be the wind. Gusts may reach as high as 140 km/h.

Conditions will begin to turn the corner as the low pushes offshore on Saturday night. However, strong winds will continue through Sunday with some onshore snow.

Models have not yet come into agreement on precipitation amounts.
