Many people across Newfoundland awoke to a some snow on the ground this morning.

While only a light dusting in some areas, central Newfoundland got pounded with heavy snow that closed schools and made for difficult travel.

An additional 5 to 10 cm are expected today for places such as the Bay of Exploits, Bonavista North, Gander and vicinity, Grand Falls-Windsor and vicinity, and Terra Nova.

Strong northerly winds gusting to 80 km/h will develop this morning and persist throughout the day, possibly stronger over the Bonavista Peninsula. This will cause blowing snow.
