Laser Shone at Plane over Corner Brook

Posted by Kyle Brookings on Thursday, August 10, 2017

There were some tense moments in the skies above Corner Brook on Saturday.

A WestJet flight from Toronto to Deer Lake was flying over Corner Brook when a brief green laser was shone at the plane.

The laser appeared as though it came from the downtown Corner Brook area.

Seeing laser beams and flashes is distracting to pilots.

Even though the laser projects a small, millimeter-sized dot close up, at longer distances the beam can be many inches across. When the beam hits the windscreen of a cockpit, or the bubble of a helicopter, imperfections in and on the glass spread the light out even more.
