A diamond that was recently discovered in the Northwest Territories is the largest ever found in North America.

The 552-carat yellow diamond is about the size of a medium egg.

It was found back in October at the Diavik Diamond Mine.

Commercial production commenced in 2003, and the lifespan of the mine is expected to be 16 to 22 years.

Prior to this find the previous largest diamond was found in the same mine in 2015.

The largest diamond ever found in the world was a 3,106-carat Cullinan Diamond, found in South Africa in 1905.
