Interstellar Object Discovered Could be Comet Not Asteroid

Astronomers have suggested that the first interstellar object discovered in our solar system is a comet and not an asteroid.

An interstellar object is a body other than a star or substar located in interstellar space, and not gravitationally bound to a star. They may include asteroids and comets.

Oumuamua is the first known interstellar object to pass through the Solar System.

Oumuamua is a small object, estimated to be about 230 by 35 meters in size. It has a dark red color, similar to objects in the outer Solar System.

It was discovered by Robert Weryk at Haleakala Obs., Hawaii on October 19, 2017.

On 27 June 2018, astronomers reported that ╩╗Oumuamua is a very inactive comet, and not an asteroid, as previously thought. However, the level of activity is extremely low compared to a typical comet.
