Inmates Beg for Help from Heat

The heat inside a Medium Security Institution in St. Louis became so oppressive that a video has surfaced of inmates yelling "help" and "help us" from the windows.

The prison, known as "The Workhouse," was built in 1966, is two-stories high, and has the capacity to hold 1138 inmates.

However, only a few sections of the institution are air-conditioned.

Recently released inmates say that conditions inside are unbearable.

City Corrections Commissioner Dale Glass said that they are developing a heat safety plan; the cafeteria and other common areas are serving as cooling stations.

Temperatures have gotten up above 35 Celsius.
