India Gripped in Worst Drought in Years

Posted by on Thursday, May 12, 2016

The Supreme Court of India ruled that a drought currently impacting the country is a disaster and constitute a national response force along with a consolidated fund within six months to deal with drought situations.

India is presently suffering under its worst drought in decades.

About 330 million people, or a quarter of the population, are suffering from drought after the last two monsoons failed.

On the outskirts of the city of Mumbai, residents are relying on water shipped by rail to meet their daily needs.

This drought has been ongoing for five months now.
