Illegal caribou hunt in Labrador

Illegal caribou hunting continues in Labrador. Now it's just a matter of time before the herd is gone according to a retired conservation officer in Labrador.

He speaks mainly about the caribou living in the Birchy Lakes area of Labrador. He also added that there are about 40 caribou left in the herd, a subgroup of the Mealy Mountain herd.

The animals have been illegally hunted for years and very little is being done to combat it.

Back in October four animals were allegedly shot by three Innu hunters from the Pakua Shipi band of Quebec, who were arrested and charged by fish and wildlife enforcement officers.
