Hurricane Hector Eyes Hawaii

Hector is a strong category 3 hurricane packing winds of 205 km/h.

As the storm continues to head west into the Pacific it may have an impact on the Hawaiian Islands late this coming week.

The latest track takes Hector south of The Big Island on Wednesday.

There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect at this time.

On August 1 Hector was named as the next storm of the season.

Hector further strengthened and became a hurricane on August 2.

Afterward, the small hurricane rapidly strengthened, becoming a strong Category 2 hurricane just six hours later.

Hector is the third major hurricane of the season.

It was a category 4 at one point.
