Hurricane Florence Lashes The Carolinas

Widespread flooding is already being reported as Hurricane Florence lashes the Carolinas.

Maximum sustained winds remain near 150 km/h with higher gusts. 

As the storm continues inland it will weaken significantly.

Rainfall as high as 40 inches (1000 mm) are possible, especially in southeastern coastal North Carolina into far northeastern South Carolina.

Florence has already knocked out power to 102,000 homes and businesses. This number is expected to rise. 
The storm is responsible for over 1,300 flight cancellations.

Millions have already evacuated, some have ignored warnings and stayed.

  • Rainfall: Atlantic Beach 12.73 inches (323.3 mm) in 24 hours.
  • Wind: 83 mph gust of 106 mph (133 km/h gust of 170 km/h)
  • Neuse River 4 feet over flood stage.
