Several times every Summer there are reports of children and pets being left in hot cars. So just how hot do cars get?

Let's say it's 25°C outside and sunny. If you leave the car with windows up after just 10 minutes the temperature soars to 37°C. In 20 minutes the temperatures sits at 43°C. By 30 minutes the temperature hits 46°C. After 1 hour the internal temperature of a car reaches an incredible 51°C.

The healthy human body maintains its internal temperature around 37°C. As the environment warms up, the body tends to warm-up as well.

Heat-related incidents result in hundreds of fatalities each year and even more heat-related illnesses.

Some areas have created laws that allow the public to break car windows to rescue children and pets.

If you come across a child or pet in a hot car call 911 or your local emergency number.
