How El Nino could spell disaster for B.C. Ski Resorts

Posted by on Friday, October 23, 2015

El Nino may cause havoc for B.C. Ski Resorts this year. El Nino typically means a warmer Winter in Canada.
Last year was a bust for ski resorts in British Columbia.

This year could mean the same result. Precipitation will not decrease as such but with warmer temperatures much of that precipitations could be rain, or rain snow mixes.

That's not to say there won't be any snow, with Whistler Mountain towering at 2,181 metres it will likely remain above freezing levels to allow snow to fall.

El Nino is an irregularly occurring and complex series of climatic changes affecting the equatorial Pacific region and beyond every few years, characterized by the appearance of unusually warm, nutrient-poor water off northern Peru and Ecuador, typically in late December. The event usually means a warmer Winter in Canada.
