While a crisis continues to unfold in Puerto Rico, a Navy hospital ship sits largely empty.

The ship arrived tow weeks ago to help with relief efforts.

Only 33 of its available 250 beds are being used on board the USNS Comfort.

It is said that it's too difficult to get sick patients onto the ship.

"Only patients with critical needs requiring specialized care will be transferred to USNS Comfort," Coast Guard Lt. David Connor said.

On September 29th 2017, the ship set sail for Puerto Rico to bring assistance to the island after Hurricane Maria had hit it nine days earlier.

She arrived the evening of October 3rd, 2017.

While in San Juan, Comfort will host a summit with key stakeholders to synchronize efforts for the ship’s mission throughout the area.
