Heavy Snow Taking Aim at Southern Alberta

Posted by Kyle Brookings on Wednesday, November 1, 2017

As of Thursday weather conditions across the Alberta Foothills will look more like winter as opposed to late Autumn.

There is an area of low pressure that is deepening as it moves across the Alberta Foothills.

It is expected to bring a prolonged period of snow to Western and Southwestern Alberta between now and Saturday.

The low was also tapping into some moisture that is over British Columbia which will increase snowfall amounts.

Heavy snow began over the Alberta Foothills on Thursday evening.

The heaviest snow will likely fall over the Pincher Creek area where total snowfall accumulations may be anywhere between 15 to 25 cm by Saturday morning.

As the snow begins to taper off some areas could actually receive 50 cm of snow particularly over higher terrain and in and in extreme Southwestern Alberta.
