The situation has become dire in parts of Quebec as portions of the province are being ravaged by flooding rains.

The town of Rigaud, 25 kilometres west of the island of Montreal, has been the hardest hit.

At least 343 homes either flooded or surrounded by water. On Thursday afternoon the town declared a state of emergency.

So far this week 53 municipalities have experienced enough flooding this week to qualify for provincial aid.

Quebec's Minister of Public Security, Martin Coiteux, said that this has been an "exceptional year" when it comes to flooding.

Aside from some morning drizzle, the next could days are looking dry with high temperatures of 10 to 15 degrees.
