Flooding in Manitoba has cut off rail service to Churchill. Churchill is a town on Hudson Bay in the far north of Manitoba.

The mayor of Churchill is requesting federal assistance.

Now, the town of 899 is wondering what will happen next.

OmniTRAX, one of North America’s largest private railroad and transportation management companies, say that it could take months to repair the damaged line. The company says that there are breaks in 24 locations.

The rail line is a vital link that delivers goods such as fuel and food to the northern community.

Churchill has an Airport that is located 3 nautical miles east southeast of the town. The airport serves the town of Churchill and the surrounding region.

The town also has a seaport. The port is iced in for much of the year and is accessible only between late July and early November.
