Half of World's Wild Coffee May Become Extinct

Bad news for coffee drinkers...

If you're are one of the millions who enjoy a cup of Joe every morning there is some bad news.

Thirteen of the most popular wild coffees is listed as critically endangered. That accounts for 60 percent of the world's wild coffee.

Climate change, deforestation, and disease are the leading causes of the risk of extinction.

In 2016, the world production of green coffee beans was 9.2 million tonnes, led by Brazil with 33% of the total.

Vietnam, Colombia, and Indonesia were other major producers.
