Government Testing New Asphalt

Posted by on Tuesday, October 3, 2017

We will soon know what type of asphalt works best in our climate.

The Provincial Government of Newfoundland and Labrador has commenced the testing of asphalt formulas on Trans-Canada Highway between Holyrood and Witless Bay.

There will be five 900-metre sections of road paved with different mixtures of asphalt.

Traditionally the composition of asphalt is sand and tar, along with rocks. Recently the government has been adding polymer to the pavement.

Polymer is a substance that has similar units bonded together such as plastics.
