The tiny community of Bay de Verde is still reeling following the loss of the Quinlan Brothers fish plant that burned to the ground on Monday and forced evacuations and a state of emergency to be declared.

Residents were allowed to return today and many were cleaning up their property while others were awestruck looking at the burnt out shell of what was once the plant that employed 700 people.

Fisheries Minister Steve Crocker said that Quinlan Brothers will likely rebuild. Crocker said that government will do what it can for the people of the region. That was a sediment echoed by Premier Dwight Ball. Ball stated that the loss is a massive negative impact on the economy.
