Gatlinburg is a popular tourist destination due to the inception of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, which borders the community.

On November 28, an unnamed forest fire started in the Chimney Tops mountains.

With the aid of strong winds and dry conditions, the fire quickly broke into multiple fires and spread across the mountains above and around Gatlinburg, Tennessee.

By the evening hours the fire had reached the downtown area of Gatlinburg, resulting in the evacuation of over 14,000 people.

The fire continues to burn destroying hundreds of homes and businesses.

So far there have been no comfirmed fatalities.

A Newmansville Volunteer Firefighter said on Tuesday afternoon "The center of Gatlinburg looks good for now."

Several structures were on fire in Gatlinburg, including the Park Vista Hotel, a 16-story hotel and the Driftwood Apartment complex near the Park Vista.
