Fort McMurray Oilsands Camps Evacuated

More sad news coming out of Fort McMurray this evening as 4,000 oilsands workers in camps have been forced to evacuate yet again.

The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo said that there is a fire travelling at 30 to 40 metres per minute heading north towards Tower Road, on the west edge of Fort McMurray, as of 2:30 p.m.

A provincial emergency alert told evacuees they should head south on Highway 63.

The Following Camps Have Been Evacuated:
Baseline;
Blacksands;
Brion Dover;
Brion Dover South Base (Thickwood);
Brion Ops Corp Camp;
Mackay River;
Noralta;
Poplar Creek (Birch);
Poplar Creek Lodge;
South Pacific Resources; and 
STP Mackay Lodge

Highway 63 northbound into Fort McMurray is closed and Highway 881 also remains closed. Highway 63 southbound remains open.

The forecast in the area is not looking the best with warm temperatures in the forecast over the next couple of days. The air quality health index for tonight is expected to be at 10+ the highest on the scale.
