Fort Bokar - The Beautiful Fortification Architecture

Posted by on Tuesday, November 14, 2017

The Fort Bokar, the oldest casemented fortress in Europe, is widely considered to be among the most beautiful and functional fortification architecture around today.

It was built as a two-story casemate fortress in Croatia by Michelozzo from 1461 to 1463.

Erected to guard the city while the walls were being reconstructed, it stands in front of the medieval wall face almost perfectly cylindrical.

It was conceived as the key point in the defense of the Pila Gate, the western fortified entrance of the city; and after the Minčeta Tower, it is the second key point in the defense of the western land approach to the city.

It is said to contain numerous cannons.
