Posted by on Saturday, August 27, 2016

The National Weather Service issued a Flash flood emergency for the downtown Kansas City area Friday night.

The NWS confirmed that they have never issued a "flash flood emergency" before.

In part the alert said, "Move to higher ground now. This is an extremely dangerous and life-threatening situation. Do not attempt to travel unless you are fleeing an area subject to flooding or under an evacuation order."

Over 100 mm of rain fell in a very short time frame.
