Firefighter Killed Battling Thomas Fire

A firefighter has lost his life while battling the Thomas Fire burning in Southern California. 

Fire Engineer Cory Iverson died of burns and smoke inhalation.

The 32 year old was part of a strike team made up of five engines in San Diego that were in an active area of the Thomas Fire in Fillmore.

The incident happened at about 9:30 a.m. Thursday. 

An investigation is underway.

Iverson and his wife were expecting their second child in a few months.

A procession will be held today starting at 10 a.m..

Online fundraising efforts are underway to help his family.
