Much of western Canada as far east as Northern Ontario is under a Polar Vortex that is sending temperatures into a downward spiral.

There are extreme cold warnings in effect from parts of British Columbia through Alberta, southern Saskatchewan, southern Manitoba, and northern Ontario.

Temperatures will moderate somewhat today, by tonight extreme cold wind chills will be present in northern Manitoba.

Even more unusual is that there are extreme cold warning in effect for portions of Nunavut. Earlier this morning in Gjoa Haven, Nunavut there was a wind chill of -61.
