Extreme Cold and Hot Across the Prairies

The Canadian Prairie Provinces is vast and has very different weather from one place to the next.

Wednesday was no exception.

Several locations in Alberta set new record high temperatures on Wednesday.

  • Edmonton International Airport set a new record of 24.4, beating the old record of 23.3 set in 1963.
  • Edmonton set a new record of 24.7, the old record of 22.8 was set in 1901.
  • Grande Prairie got up to 21.5. The old record of 21.1 was set in 1942.
  • Rocky Mountain House got up to 24.2. The old record of 23.9 was set in 1929.
  • Finally Whitecourt reached a new record of 22.5, the old record of 21.1 set in 1954. 
It was a different story in Manitoba with new record low temperatures set.

  • Lynn Lake set a new low record of -22.6. The old record of -13.9 was set in 1972.
  • Norway House set a new record of -13.5. The old record of -12.8 was set in 1922.
  • Also Thompson set a new record of -20.6, the old record of -16.0 was set in 2004.
