An area of low pressure centered over the southeastern U.S. will continue developing into a major winter storm which will impact a large portion of the East Coast from the southern Appalachians through the Mid-Atlantic states from Friday into the weekend.

Areas such as Baltimore and Washington D.C. may pick up as much as  2 feet of snow.

States of emergency have been declared in Northern Georgia, Tennessee, North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, District of Columbia, and Pennsylvania.

Government employees in Atlanta Georgia are off today.

There are significant delays and excessive amounts of flight cancellations across the Eastern US.
