Eastern Newfoundland to See Wintry Mix Beginning on Tuesday

Posted by Kyle Brookings on Sunday, January 13, 2019

An area of low pressure looks like it will deliver a blast of winter weather to at least the eastern half of Newfoundland.

GDPS, the Canadian model, tends to think the center of the storm will pass east of the Avalon Peninsula. This keeps most of the mixed precipitation offshore.

The U.S. GFS also keeps the center of the low off the Avalon with a similar outcome.

The Euro model takes the center of the system over the Burin Peninsula. This scenario sends snow farther west.

Snow will fall west of the track of the low. There will be mixed precipitation east of that.

Wind gusts could react 90 km/h in coastal areas.

It remains too early to provide an accumulation forecast.
