Earthquake Strikes off Tonga

A magnitude 6.1 earthquake occurred early this morning in Tonga.

The center of the earthquake was 154.3 km northwest of Pangai, Tonga.

It was a fairly shallow earthquake striking at a depth of just 10 kilometers.

No tsunami warning was issued.

There was a low likelihood of casualties and damage.

Tonga sits on the Pacific Ring of Fire, a region of frequent seismic activity due to collisions between continental plates.
