Earthquake Strikes Gulf of California

The United States Geological Survey reported a magnitude 6.3 earthquake in the Gulf of California on Friday.

The quake occurred at 4:17 pm local time at a depth of 10 km.

It was about 78.1 km north-northeast of Loreto, Mexico.

The area is a desert coastline dotted with small towns and fishing villages popular with U.S. tourists.

There were no immediate reports of damage.

Mexican federal emergency services said there were no tsunami risk.
