Earth Passes Grim Milestone

Posted by on Friday, September 30, 2016

Earth has surpassed a milestone and it is not good news. In fact it is history changing.

September 2016 will go down in history as the date that is usually when atmospheric carbon dioxide is at its minimum but did not drop below 400 parts per million (ppm). Which means that we have passed the threshold. Permanently.

Scientists say that it is now unlikely that the levels will ever drop below 400 parts per million in our lifetime.

Carbon pollution is the main contributor to climate disruption, making extreme weather worse -- including more severe floods, widespread wildfires and record drought. It is also linked to life-threatening air pollution—such as the smog that can trigger asthma attacks.

Human activity is adding more carbon dioxide to the atmosphere than plants can take up. Much more.
