Death Toll From Quebec Heat Wave Hits 70

The death toll from the heat wave that gripped Quebec has soared from the initial 33 to 70.

Most of the deaths were people over the age of 60 and suffered from some from of chronic illness.

Most were in Montreal. The morgue has become overcrowded. 

The long-lived heat wave saw humidex values soar into the mid to high 40's.

Emergency services received over 1,000 calls per day.
