We could soon welcome Danny to the list of tropical cyclones to the 2015 season.

Satellite imagery and radar data indicate that thunderstorm activity associated with the low pressure area near Little River Inlet, North Carolina has not become better organized during the past few hours.

However upper-level winds are marginally conducive, there is some potential for a tropical cyclone to form this afternoon or tonight as the low moves northeastward along the coast of North Carolina.

After tonight, the low is expected to move into the open Atlantic Ocean and merge with a frontal system.

The National Hurricane Center gives the system a 40 percent chance of developing into a tropical cyclone over the next 48 hours, and also a 40 percent chance over the next 5 days.
